We Are Excited

Get ready! Sit down! Get a cup of coffee and a tissue to wipe the tears from your eyes. WE HAVE DONE IT!

Oh? What did we do???? We developed two programs just for our gaited horses. The first and most important program is a registration program for ALL gaited horses to assist us in gaining new memberships and spreading the word about FOSH and sound gaited training principles. This registration program will assist us in developing more “specific” programs for our gaited horses. Whinny!! Whinny!!

Yes, your gaited horse can now have a registration through FOSH. If your gaited horse is not registered with a purebred breed registry, it can now apply for a Permanent Honorary Recognition with FOSH. There are several requirements, but they are simple….Complete an Application for Permanent Honorary Recognition with FOSH, send it with a video/DVD of your horse gaiting freely and under saddle, and include the one time registration fee. If your horse is registered with a Gaited Breed Registry, fill out an Application for Registration of a Horse in a FOSH Program and include the one time registration fee. It is that simple

The first “specific” program we are putting into place is an endurance and competitive trail program – the FOSH Gaited Distance Program. Can you believe it? Do you want to know more? Read on!

This program is a FOSH program. It is for any gaited horse, whether it is registered with a known association or organization … or not! This program is for your horse. Whinny!! Whinny!! Not for you!

Friends of Sound Horses (FOSH) Announces Proud Sponsorship of the

Muckleratz Competitive Trail Ride

July 14, 2013

The FOSH Gaited Distance Program is proud to help sponsor the Muckleratz  Competitive Trail Ride (CTR) July 27-28 at Weiser State Forest in Halifax, PA.  The Muckleratz Run is an Eastern Competitive Trail Ride Association (ECTRA) sanctioned Competitive Trail Ride (CTR) with two 25 mile rides and one 2-day 50 mile ride.  They are offering a Conditioning Distance Ride (CDR) Clinic of 12.5 miles on each day.  The ride site is near Elizabethville, PA, just 45 minutes north of Harrisburg.

In addition to helping to sponsor the race, FOSH has provided FOSH Gaited Distance Program (GDP) logo bucket cover prizes for the top three gaited horses in each category.

FOSH offers the first distance recognition program for all breeds of gaited horses and 2013 is the inaugural year.  The GDP promotes FOSH Sound Principles by recording mileage of the gaited distance horses competing in veterinarian sanctioned endurance, limited distance or competitive trail events and recognizes, honors and rewards the work of that horse.  Each year’s program runs from January 1 through December 31.  Registration for 2013 is still open and program rules and forms are available online at http://www.foshgaitedsporthorse.com/

The FOSH GDP includes Competitive Trail and Endurance Riding, Year-End High Mileage Awards, 1,000 Mile Awards, and the FOSH Commemorative Award Program.  Winners will be announced in the FOSH Sound Advocate magazine, on the FOSH website and in press releases.

Many gaited horse breeds have provided smooth comfortable rides for their riders while successfully competing in distance riding programs.  Some of these breeds include the Tennessee Walking Horse, Spotted Saddle Horse, Missouri Fox Trotting Horse, Racking Horse, Paso Fino, Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horses, Rocky Mountain Horse, Icelandic Horse and more.

FOSH is a national leader in the promotion of natural, sound gaited horses and actively fights against abuse and soring of Tennessee Walking Horses.  For more information about FOSH, the only national organization that represents multiple gaited breeds, or to join, visit www.fosh.info

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions for improvements to the FOSH Gaited Distance Program. Every suggestion has been discussed and analyzed as to how it fits with this national program to recognize and honor the gaited distance horse. As a result of suggestions, we are pleased to announce the following additions or changes to the Gaited Distance Program..

A Junior Rider category has been added.

Lightweight and Heavyweight have been defined.

For the first year of the program, it will not be necessary to have the Annual Horse Card signed by ride management.

We value your opinions and suggestions and hope that you continue to communicate with us. The first year of any program is exciting but we are aware there may be adjustments to be made.

Thanks for caring and sharing.
